THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO BORN AND RAISED ADULT CONTEMPORY POP-SOUL SINGER SONGWRITER ‘ MEGAN NADIN’ CHATS WITH US HOW TEACHING SET HER PATH FOR MUSIC,NEW MUSIC AND MORE. READ IT BELOW!

What is your name?
Megan Nadin

What is your genre of music?
Adult Contemporary/Pop soul

Give us a little bio about you.
I was born and raised in Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada.  It’s a small city that I’m proud to be from. I grew up in a music loving family with a grandmother that had a love for singing and songwriting. This had me influenced to write my own songs as early as 7 years old. I’ve always had a love for singing and songwriting but I actually studied to become a teacher.

What made you go into music?
It wasn’t until I took a teaching opportunity in Cambodia that I realized singing was what I wanted to pursue. One day while I was there I started singing to some of the children. From that moment they began asking me to sing to them every day. Seeing the genuine happiness it seemed to bring them made me feel so so good. When I told my mom about it she encouraged me to start sharing this hidden passion of mine with family and friends. After enough encouragement – I decided to take the leap. Now I pursue music with the hope I can make a difference with both the songs/music I write and the proceeds I make from that music.

Who are your influences?
I’ve been influenced by so many creatives but ones that have really left a mark on me are Tom Petty, Amy Winehouse, Bryan Adams and Alanis Morrissette. It’s not necessarily that they’ve influenced my sound but my creativity, process and drive.

Are you a signed?
As of now I’m an indie artist! It’s a dream of mine to be signed. I guess we’ll see if the opportunity presents itself!

Your new single ‘Heartless Heartbreak’ is out, tell us more about the single.
“Heartless Heartbreak” is a fun, upbeat, airy song that describes the in-between phases of a relationship – that kind of unsure phase where you know there’s a real connection but you’re still feeling out someone’s intentions. That “what are you in this for” mentality that we can sometimes feel when making ourselves vulnerable in our love lives.

What is the meaning behind the single?
It’s good to celebrate finding a love/connection that makes you feel on top of the world. At the same time it’s important to set boundaries, know your worth and never settling for anything less.

Who did you work with on the single?
I wrote the song with an incredibly talented man named Johnny Black who is also one of the producers. When we were done, I liked It so much it ended up through to full production with producer Keith Thomas. He ended up cutting the final vocal with me and added his magic to the final production.

Describe the track in two words.
Happy and Empowering.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it?
I ended up dropping an album at the end of 2020 titled “This Was Then” and so decided going into 2021 I wanted to experiment with dropping singles a bit. Although there is no real plan for an album, if working in the music industry has taught me anything its to go with the flow and be open to change.

What else can we expect in 2021?
A music video for my new single “Heartless Heartbreak” is on its way which is really exciting! On to of that… more music! I’ve been writing like crazy and I’m really looking forward to sharing some of the new things I’ve been working on. I also plan on sharing a lot more behind the scenes of my writing process and my music journey in general.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I see myself continuing to share my music, songwriting (for me and other artists/entertainers), and having a successful foundation titled  “None Forgotten Foundation” that allows me to give back to those in need.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
You are enough – just put in the work and keep showing up!
