GOT CHATTING WITH POP-PUNK QUARTET ‘THE THINGS WE WERE’ AND WITH THEIR NEW RELEASE OUT NOW YOU CAN READ WHAT WE CHATTED ABOUT RIGHT HERE!

What is the band’s name?
The Things We Were

How did you come up with the band’s name?
Well, I joined a bit later on, so I kind of inherited the name. That’s a question for Dylan.

What is your genre of music?
Pop punk mostly, but we like to add a little bit of heavier influences. I’m a big fan of RnB also, so you may hear some vocal runs from time to time.

Give us a little bio about you.
I’ve been playing drums and guitar since 4th grade. I’ve been in quite a few bands, learned music production and engineering and currently work at Rotation Records in Norristown, PA.

What made you go into music?
Honestly, my mom. She’d play all of her favorite records for me like the beach boys, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire and so on. I just always wanted to make the music that moved me as a kid. I discovered the heavier stuff on my own. That’s a whole other story.

Who are your influences?
The Beach Boys, Blink 182, the 1975, ADTR

Are you a signed?
We’re not. We’re really being careful about where we make our home as band. We’re all in this for the long haul and want to be able to create music for a while.

Your new single ‘Black Tops’ is out now, tell us more about the single.
We decided to release Black Tops because it just feels good to listen to. It’s a weird time right now and It’s written about less than great circumstances, but makes you feel better about them. That’s kind of the point behind the point of the song.

What is the meaning behind the single?
Dylan and myself just got back from Florida after recording the first run of songs for the record. We were so inspired that we wrote that single (about people not understanding your drive and passion because they don’t have one), recorded a demo, and went back to Florida to track it for the album.

Who did you work with on the single?
The man himself, Andy Karpovck. He really just gets it.

What was the writing and recording process like?
Pretty seamless actually. I think we had the demo done in about 2 hours and tracked the rest at the Audio Compound with Andy a couple months later. We were just getting used to how fast this industry can get, and we cranked that bad boy out!

Describe the track in two words.
For me.

Will we see a music video for the song and if so what can we expect?
I don’t believe we’re going to be shooting a video for this one. We have a few surprises in store though. Our next few releases are coming in hot!

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it?
Yes. The album is called “Cloudy Kids”. We’ll be releasing a single a month, but the release for the album is still TBD. You can expect all of the goodies a pop punk band can deliver, but with a lot of feeling outside of the genre. Dylan and I wrote our hearts out on this one. We’re really proud of it.

What else can we expect in Early 2021?
New singles first and foremost. We’re currently shooting the video to our next single. We have a lot to unfold and without running my mouth and giving it all away, I’ll say “You’ll see”

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Writing with the boys. Playing as many shows as possible (pending the pandemic) and sharing our music with the people who love it. We’ve all come to terms with the fact that music is our life and we’re just going to keep writing.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“We’ll figure it out” or “Jawn” it’s hard to choose.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Guitar pics, extra cables, water, hot sauce, oh and the rest of the band haha.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yes! You can follow us on Instagram
