What are your names?
Louis, Jamie, Will & Manny

What is the band’s name?
Louis And The Shakes

What is your genre of music?
We like to brand it as indie rock born in a western psychedelic world we’ve created

Give us a little bio about you.
We’re a four piece rock band that don’t hold back, no nonsense, hard hitting riffs to excite new music lovers. Our journey really took off in 2018 after smashing OnBlackheath festival and we thought lets reinvent ourselves as this band. We released ‘Snake Hips,’ our first single from this new wave of sound last year and then Covid came along and kinda cocked up our plans. But instead of resting on our laurels we thought let’s record an album! How Badly Do You Want It? Is the first single from the upcoming album.

What made you go into music?
Speaking on behalf of the band here, as well as all liking the same kind of music and buying CDs and albums growing up, I think we all have a desire to play on stage and entertain. When we perform live everyone gives it 200%, it’s very natural for us so I think playing live is a key thing that ties us all together.

Who are your influences?
It really is a broad spectrum, from Creedence Clearwater, to Lana del Rey. Black keys to to hip hop. We bring all our musical tastes and ideas to the table when we’re recording.

Are you a signed?
Not yet

You released your new single ‘How Badly Do You Want It?’, tell us more about the single.
The single is a call to arms for people in this age of hope we’re living in. I (Louis) was conscious when writing it that I wanted a song people could relate to. We wanted to unite and excite people with this track which I think comes across with the core instrument being the handclaps, and the uproarious energy of the band.

Describe the track in two words.
Anthemic, empowering

Who did you work with on the single?
We worked with Michael Smith our producer who was involved in a Wolf Alice track and works with some bands we admire like Weird Milk. It’s important to find the right producer for your music and he was instrumental in instilling confidence in what we wanted to create. This track and the album has so many unique twists and turns from the funky middle 8 on this record, to the wicked, gnarly edge on Losing my Mind.

What was the writing and recording process like?
It was done in stages across 2020 obviously with Covid impacting us at times. It was a great process though, and came very naturally to us. It was kinda like ‘why didn’t we do this sooner?!’ It was nice to be able to switch off from the real world and let our imagination run wild

Will we see a music video for the track?
yea and it’s rad!

Will we see an EP or Album this year and if so, what can we expect?
The album is coming out early part of September this early, don’t miss it!

What else can we expect in 2021?
We’ve got some cool ideas for future music videos for each single from the album, plus we hope to get back to playing live soon! There will be merch to come soon im sure and who knows come end of the year we might get back in the studio.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Slurping on a white Russian cocktail in the Bahamas

What quote or saying do you always stick by? – Andy Warhol – art is what you can get away it.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Guitar, bass, drums, microphones and amps…without them we’re screwed!
