What is your name?
AMA JANE
What is your genre of music?
My genre is POP music with hints of grunge, indie and bubblegum mixed together.
Give us a little bio about you.
AMA JANE exists at the internecion of electronic bubblegum pop and jagged grunge rock. Drawing influence from some of music’s heaviest hitters like Prince, Freddy Mercury and Lady Gaga, seamlessly bridging the gap between those two worlds in a way you probably haven’t heard before. In July 2020, after a couple months of surreal uncertainty, I finally decided to release my music out into the world. I had been writing for 10 years but never had the resources to get them heard. I spent many years developing my artistry & a bold electric POP sound. I finally found my dream team in April 2020… Ryan Phillips (Nidus Expire, Tom Lohrmann, Dead Weather) who has also been Music Director for Tegan Marie and Jena Rose & Theodore Pierce, mix engineer and sound designer (engineering credits with All that Remains). They both gave me the motivation to get out of my quarantine slump & I began a writing ritual everyday.
What made you go into music?
My older brother has been performing/singing since the age of 5 and also my older sister too. They had specific styles of music, so I decided I want to be like them but have my own unique style. My mum then bought me my first second hand guitar at the age of 12 and I began my songwriter then.
Who are your influences?
Lady Gaga, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Miley Cyrus, Janis Joplin and lots more.
Are you a signed?
I am currently unsigned but will happily take offers haha
You released your new single ‘Old Flame’, tell us more about the single.
‘Old Flame’ was written during the beginning stages of lockdown 2020 in Ama’s childhood bedroom. The surreal silence allowed Ama Jane to revisit & reflect on her past relationships, letting her imagination depict an alternative ending & AJ finally getting her revenge on all of those so-called bad boys who screwed her over. Ama Jane writes her very own happy ending. The song is about staying fierce & strong & simply loving yourself just as you are. If you are hurt, pick yourself back up again & dust of the cobwebs of relationships past. SLAY!
Describe the track in two words.
Fiery & Fierce (I wouldn’t wanna be the ex boyfriends)
What was the writing and recording process like?
I recorded and wrote it in my childhood bedroom during lockdown 2020. It was a fun experience as my room is so small. But I recorded my vocals and demos and sent them to my producer Bud Phillips and Mixer Ted Pierce who helped make the song sound amazing!
Who did you work with on the single?
Production – Bud Phillips Mixing/Mastering – Ted Pierce
Will we see a music video for ‘Old Flame’, if so, what can we expect from it?
