WE GOT A CHANCE TO HAVE A CHAT WITH ‘IHATEKAYE’ WHO RELEASED BRAND NEW SINGLE ‘INCASE’ AND YOU CAN READ WHAT THE MEANING ABOUT IT RIGHT HERE!

What is your name? My name’s ihatekaye which started out as a joke because my name before was yung kaye and i changed that to just kaye so my @ went from like @yungkaye_ to @vckaye the VC standing for Voluntary Cap, a collective I was in. I got put in this Instagram group chat and there was someone I didn’t know named @ihatedylxne and I thought that was sick and so did a few other people and he told us to put ihate in front of our names like he had and so we did. Since then everyone from that group chat has changed their @ but I’ve kept mine and made it my name.

What is your genre of music? I don’t really just make a genre I just kinda make whatever I want and if I like it I like it. I am influenced by Pop, Rock, and Hyperpop heavily though.

Give us a little bio about you. I’m 17 from Dana Point, California. I was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California. I started music my junior year of high school after a break up just because I wanted a way to kind of speak freely and say what I really had to say. I fell in love with everything about making music and just kept going.

What made you go into music? I got into music like I said I had a bad break up and I wanted a way to speak freely and say what I really wanted to say in a way at first nobody was gonna hear. Eventually people started hearing and my numbers started going up and it made me wanna do it even more.

Who are your influences? My biggest influences both personally and musically are Juice, X, Koshi, EDEN, and ericdoa.

You released your new single ‘Incase’, tell us more about the single. Incase is two stories mashed into one kinda, one talking about a long on and off relationship with the opening lines and then the second about an ex and substances she brought around.

Describe the track in two words. Fucking pain

What was the writing and recording process like? I heard the beat and I was like yeah this the one so I listened over and over until I got the flow I liked and from there I just punched in bar for bar pretty much.

Who did you work with on the single? Pacific made the beat but other than that nobody else it was just me writing and recording.

Will we see a music video for ‘Incase’, if so what can we expect from it? 100% will be seeing a music video, we have a lot planned with this still.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it? 100% there will be an EP it’ll be a whole visual EP with one long video with all the songs including Incase

What else can we expect in 2021? I’m trying to just live in the moment right now with all the crazy shit already happening but I know there will be big things in 2021.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years? I haven’t really thought that far ahead, like I said I’m trying to just live in the moment, but in 5 years if I’m happy, healthy, and still making music (a little blue check on IG wouldn’t hurt) then I’d be content.

What quote or saying do you always stick by? There’s kinda a running superstition with me and some friends before we do some crazy shit we gotta say “aw fuck yeah” don’t know why it just is what it is.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget? I can never forget my lighter, my hoodie because you never know when it’ll be cold, my beanie of course for hair management and keeping me warm plus it’s got steve on there and I can’t go anywhere without my boy steve, my airpods because I always gotta have music playing, and my phone so I can play the music

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you? My Instagram is just my name @ihatekaye and my twitter is @alrkaye
