How did you come up with the name?
Rio is my real name, people would just always call me R.I.O so I ran with it.

My genre of music is Rap/Hip hop/Grime.
Give us a little bio about you.
I am an established Manchester rapper from Moss Side with (Streetsmart Crew), I quickly became a household name in my hometown. My first single ‘Narrow Roads’ (Prod by Bless beats) went on to gain great momentum with Radio 1 and Radio BBC 1Xtra DJs – Target, Mista Jam, Annie Nightingale, Mary Anne Hobbs, Dj Cameo, Ras Kwame, Twin B & DJ Q who heavily supported me. The single went straight in at Number 4 on the BBC 1Xtra’s UKG chart and was featured on Sky Sports show ‘Soccer AM’. Following up from the success of ‘Narrow Roads’ I released a mixtape ‘Bottom to the Top’ that went on to clock 15,000 downloads in one week and was nominated for ‘The best grime mixtape’ 2010 at the Mixtape awards in London.
What made you go in to music?
My surroundings growing up in Moss Side I always wanted to make a change. I always stood out from my peers in my crew ‘Street-smart’ ENT.

You released your debut album ‘The Good,The Bad and The Ugly’, tell us more about the album.
The album ‘The Good, The Bad & The Ugly’ is my life story. The album is a masterpiece well-crafted and put together, from the production, to the concepts, storytelling, hooks and artistry the listener will be taken on an emotional roller coaster.
What is the meaning behind the album?
The meaning behind the album is documents The Good (being a father, a Christian, business owner, inspirational figure). The Bad (is growing up in Moss Side, showcasing my experiences living in an area that Is known for its gun violence, navigating through negativity). The Ugly (going through relationships with woman, being raised by my Grandmother, not having my real mum around much, searching for a woman’s wisdom)
What was the writing and recording process like?
The writing and recording process was surreal, for the first time I was writing about my story that was untold, so to find that courage after 4 years was incredible. No stone was left untuned. We unapologetically nailed this project. For me, it’s PERFECT!

Yes, there are already videos to Ghost, Awake and 2020 Vision on my YouTube channel – @Rioowyamean. The Good, the Bad & the Ugly feat Misha B video is out early January 2021.

We’ve done an online show 20th November highlights can be seen on my Instagram / Facebook / YouTube – @Rioowyamean. We intend to do another online show before 2021.

We can expect The Good The Bad & The Ugly Documentary and maybe a song from a project I am working on.

Not at the moment no.

My influences are Jesus Christ, my parents, my children, my family and my community.
How do you get inspiration to write songs?
I get inspirations naturally topics just come to me. Unless I have something, I really want to talk about my inspirations come from something out of this world.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
In the next 5 years I see myself with a successful production company. I see myself being global, travelling the world helping young aspiring creatives.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
There wasn’t one particular song, it wasn’t music that influenced me to go back into music it was me closing in on my religion and changing my mindset fearlessly
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
Best advice I have ever been given was to always be yourself.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
As an artist just be yourself, have fun and always follow your gut instinct. Self-belief is key.
