MISSISSAUGA,ONTARIO ARTIST ‘DANI KRISTINA’ RELEASED HER BRAND NEW SINGLE ‘YOU DON’T GET TO CHOOSE’, I GOT A CHANCE TO HAVE A CHAT TO GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WHO SHE IS AND MORE. READ IT HERE.

What is your name?
Dani Kristina

What is your genre of music?
Pop

Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a singer songwriter from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and I’ve been writing songs since I was about 5 years old. Throughout my lifetime I’ve written over 600 original songs and I often perform at venues in my local community.

What made you go into music?
I started music lessons at the age of 5, after my sister started learning how to play the piano. It mainly grew out of a desire to be like my older sister, which eventually evolved into my greatest passion.

Are you signed?
No

You released your ‘You Don’t Get to Choose’’, tell us more about the single.
“You Don’t Get to Choose” was inspired by what’s going on in the world mainly. I reflected on my past experiences as well as certain experiences I’ve been fortunate to have not lived through. Overall, I was feeling quite disheartened by a lot of the limitations that society places on each and every one of us. While it seems like a “getting over you” song, it’s actually an open letter to the world we live in where I’m my frustrations about certain relationships and some of the obstacles that may stand in their way.

What is the meaning behind the single?
I guess the meaning behind “You Don’t Get to Choose” is accepting that you’re not going to make everyone happy. Ultimately, people are going to say things and make judgements, but at the end of the day, they don’t have a choice as to which decisions you make.

Describe the track in two words.
Powerful. Sad.

What was the writing process like?
I remember coming home one day and just sitting down at the piano thinking about everything, haha. As I just thought about certain people I’d encountered and things people had said, I was beginning to get quite emotional and the world what gave you the right to make me cry just popped into my head. After that, the rest of the song just poured out of me, and I ended up finishing it in a couple of minutes. The lyrics you hear on the final track are the same ones on the voice memo when I first wrote it.

What was the recording process like?
I recorded this whole song at Noble Street Studios in Toronto with Trevor James Anderson. We started off with just some piano and strings, eventually building in the rest of the instruments you hear in the final song. After that, we just played around with the last chorus, and tried to make it as epic as possible.

Who did you work with on the single?
As with my other two singles before “You Don’t Get to Choose”, I worked with Trevor James Anderson, Julijana Hajdinjak and Andrew Sporcic. On this track, just because of the nature of the message, I brought in a 6 person choir of some of my good friends and other local musicians to sing on the final chorus with me.

Will we see a music video for the single?
Yes! The music video officially airs September 13th, 2020!

None that have been set in stone quite yet!

What else can we expect in 2020?
I’ll be releasing my 5 song EP, entitled Aura on October 16th, 2020 as well as a music video for one of the songs off of the EP on November 13th, 2020.

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any upcoming artists?
I’ll be collaborating with guitarist Andrew Sporcic on a single coming out early 2021.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
Yes, of course! They could send an email to danikristinamusic@hotmail.com

Do you play any instruments?
Yes, piano. I played that classically for about 15 years. I also dabble on the French horn and guitar.

Who are your influences?
My influences kind of come from all over the place, but I’d say when it comes to songwriting, I’ve always been a huge fan of Regina Spektor.  I remember listening to her in my room when I was about 7 years old, just when I was beginning to develop my songwriting skills, and I think some elements of her music can still be heard in my writing today. Another one is definitely Taylor Swift. I’ve always really appreciated her emotion and vulnerability that she writes with. In terms of newer artists, I’ve been loving Lennon Stella, Noah Cyrus and Ben Howard.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Honestly, song writing is probably the most natural thing for me. Whether I’m bored, sad or extremely happy, I always want to sit down and write something new.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Hopefully in 5 years, I’ll still be turning to song writing as my primary form of expression, because that’s all I’ve ever really seen myself doing. By that point, I hope to have some more songs released and to keep performing whenever I can.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
I really enjoy the outdoors, so you can usually find me on a hiking trail somewhere. I also really enjoy DIY projects, which is what I use to keep myself busy when I’m not working on my music.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more into the music scene?
Speeding Cars by Imogen Heap.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
It’s okay to make changes along the way.

It’s okay to make changes along the way.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Write about everything, not just your experiences.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
I wouldn’t say that there’s a specific saying I stick by, considering how much I love lyrics and poetry, but I’d say that “Have less. Do more” are great words to live by.

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?
Anywhere live music is playing!

Your coming off tour.
1/ Where do you go first?
Into the wilderness
2/ Who do you see first? My family
3/What do you eat first? A caprese salad.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?

  • My mic
  • Extra lipstick
