BORN AND BASED IN TEXAS, USA INTRODUCING ‘AUSTIN ENGLISH’ WITH A COUNTRY GENRE. DROPPING HIS BRAND NEW SINGLE ‘WILLIE NELSON T-SHIRT’ I GOT A CHANCE TO HAVE A CHAT WITH HIM ALL ABOUT IT.

What are your names?
Austin English

What is your genre of music?
Country

Give us a little bio about you.
I grew up in Elgin, TX. It’s a Texas bbq town not far from Austin. I started playing music in high school with my band. Then I moved off to college and joined a second band and started playing every show we could get. That eventually lead to the solo career I currently have.

What made you go into music?
I started a band for a talent show in high school. That lead to our first paying gig at 16. That lead to trying to figure out how to this as a career over the next couple of years.

Are you a signed?
Not to a record label.

You have released your new single ‘Willie Nelson T-Shirt’, tell us more about the single.
I was shown this song by a third party at a writers retreat. I couldn’t stop listening to it for weeks. I showed my band and they were like “Yeah we need to record that asap!” So we did! lol

What is the meaning behind the single?
It’s a fun, upbeat single about a guy who just wants his favourite shirt back from his ex. I think a lot of people have been there a time or two lol.

Describe the track in two words.
Really fun

What was the writing process like?
This was pitched to us so I can’t answer that.

What was the recording process like?
Recording was a blast! We had some top notch guys in the studio. It’s always fun when you’re recording good music.

Who did you work with on the single?
We recorded at Fort Worth Sound with Bart Rose. Josh Compton, Clayton Edwards, Brendan Gilman, and Jesse Jennings came in to cut the studio tracks.

Will we a music video for the track?
You just might!!

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect?
Yes. Our intent is to release an album. However, we have a few singles to put out first. You cant expect top notch song writing and musicianship on each!

Do you have any online shows coming up?
I’d follow my Facebook page around the 21st or 22nd of this month

What else can we expect in 2020?
I would say another 2 or 3 online singles straight to streaming platforms. Willie Nelson T-Shirt is also going out as our new radio single. So keep an eye out for that.

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any upcoming artists?
Not scheduled but it is definitely something I’m looking at.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
Absolutely! They can contact our management for that!

Do you play any instruments?
I do. I play guitar, some bass, and really bad drums. lol

Who are your influences?
They’ve shifted back and forth over the years. The constant centers though are Steve Earle, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Hank Williams Jr, and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
I have to be in the right frame of mind. If I’m writing solo, it’s not something I can force. The songs have to have a flow to them when I’m writing for me to keep working on it. Now if I’m writing with other people, it’s usually scheduled and I can mentally prepare myself for that and the work flow is a lot easier.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Playing show, recording music, and talking about what ever I’m releasing with you!

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
I like to travel with my wife, hang out with our dogs, and go visit our family.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more into the music scene?
There wasn’t really one song. It was just the was the Texas scene was unfolding at the time that made us want to go out and do it!

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
Don’t trust anybody in the industry until it’s in writing.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Don’t have expectations about how you think your career should be by now or by a certain date. It really takes a lot of grinding and work to get anywhere.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Treat others how you want to be treated. (Although it’s a struggle somedays lol)

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?
Meyer’s Elgin Smokehouse

Your coming off tour.
1/ Where do you go first?
Home
2/ Who do you see first? My wife and our three dogs
3/What do you eat first? Either Mexican food or Whataburger

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Guitar, Tuner, Mic stand, cables, and the tablet to run our sound board. ( That’s a list from experience lol)
