What is your name?
Brooke MacArthur

What is your genre of music?
Country

Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a country singer/songwriter from the East Coast of Canada! I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember and started focusing more on song-writing over the last couple of years. I recorded four original songs in Nashville a couple months ago and recently released two singles called “In A New Town” and “Good Like Summertime.”

What made you go into music?
As a kid, I loved singing along to the hits from female country music stars. I remember listening to Faith Hill CDs on repeat and wanting to be just like her haha. I started singing at summer festivals/events in my hometown and joined a band in middle school.

You released your single ‘Good Like Summertime’, tell us more about the single.
I wrote the song in my bedroom after the summer of 2019. I live on an island in Canada and our summers are beautiful here so I was inspired to write about a young couple spending their summer on our picturesque beaches. Similar to the summer love between Sandy and Danny in the movie Grease!

Describe the track in two words.
Feel good/catchy

Who did you work with on the Single?
I brought the song to Off The Row Studio in Nashville, TN. P.T Houston was the producer and the studio musicians included Mark Prentice, Danny Parks (featured on Grammy award winning tracks) and Matthew Bubel. The song was mastered by Gabe Galluci from Toronto.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so what can we expect?
I hope to keep writing music and eventually go back to Nashville to co-write with other musicians. I’d love to create an album in the future.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
I would love to collaborate with other musicians. They could email me at brookemacarthur9@hotmail.com or message me on Instagram (brookemacarthurmusic).

Do you play any instruments?
I play the guitar and the piano (occasionally).

Who are your influences?
Taylor swift, Shania Twain and Faith Hill.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
I like to listen to music by similar female artists to get inspiration. I’ll think of a similar melody or topic and start writing down my own ideas. I also tend to get inspiration from my past/present relationships and life experiences.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Living in Nashville, co-writing with other artists and playing my original music in front of people!

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
I’ve been substitute teaching for the last two years so I’ve really enjoyed working with children. I graduated with a Kinesiology degree in the spring of 2019 so I enjoy doing anything fitness related. I love doing yoga, HIIT exercises and running

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
Any song from the Fearless album by the one and only Taylor Swift! She definitely inspired me to pick up the guitar and start singing when I was twelve years old.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
“Hold the vision. Trust the process”

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Don’t try to be like anyone else, be yourself. Write songs that relate to you as a person/artist, not what you think others want you to sing.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking of.

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?
The beautiful sandy beaches on the north shore of my home province, Prince Edward Island!
