What is your name?
ACTRESE

What is your genre of music?
Alt – pop I think would be the closest to what my music is, however I do like to draw inspiration from all kinds of music.

Give us a little bio about you.
I am a 22 year old singer/songwriter based in London. I like to think of my music as sexy envisionment of reality and believe in music being a message and singing a conductor of it. Whenever I feel confused, insecure, angry, putting a song together organizes my mind. I absolutely love live performances. Artists sharing pieces of their souls, bringing music to its’ organic roots, unedited vocals – all coming together as the most beautifully imperfect experience. I have been into music for as long as I can remember – always the first one to sing in school plays etc, but at some point my teacher told me I couldn’t sing at all. It made me quit singing all together, I was too embarrassed, too scared. In the fall of 2013 I discovered Bastille and it was a turning point for me. Their music got me through a rather difficult time in my life filling out the silence, emptiness around me. I realized it helped me so much because I was figuring out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. What happened next is history now – I exchanged my guitar for microphone, recorded a demo, moved to London, met some of my idols, recorded an EP, met a producer from Brighton – Lewis Amoroso (Amo Audio) and finally recorded my newest single ‘LOLA’.

What made you go into music?
Life is short but we can make it sound nice and feel like a dream. I always wanted something more from life and when I realized that only music gives me that thrill, there was no going back. I can’t give up because there would always be that void in me.

Are you a signed?
I’m not signed, no.

You released your new single ‘LOLA’, tell us more about the single.
LOLA is a song about dreaming, working to fulfil your dreams and all the thoughts that go through your head when you have no clue when and whether your dreams will come true. It’s a song about hope.

What is the meaning behind ‘LOLA’.
It’s a nickname all my family calls me. The song is very close to my heart as it was my first attempt at song writing when I was 16 so it only felt right to call the song something personal.

Describe the track in two words.
Dreamy, beat – driven.

Who did you work with on the Single?
Lewis Amoroso (Amo Audio) – he is a producer from Brighton and honestly I couldn’t have hoped for a better person to do it with.

Will we see an EP or Album this year?
I am definitely planning other releases already, but as of now I don’t think it will be any sort of extended play. Although you never know what life can bring!

Do you have any shows coming up?
Nothing confirmed at this point but it is in the making.

If so where will you be heading?
I’ll keep you posted!

What else can we expect in Early 2020?
After releasing LOLA at the end of February, I will be working on another single which I am hoping to put out before summer. There are also some plans to play live but I don’t want to give away too much!

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any up coming artists?
There are some people I would love collaborating with, but at the moment I think it is important to establish my own name and sound.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
I am definitely open to dialogue, should anybody be interested and up for a chat please email actrese@gmail.com

Do you play any instruments?
Guitar.

Who are your influences?
They do change a lot, but a few that are always there would have to be Lana Del Rey, The xx, Bastille, The Weeknd and Dua Lipa.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Having time to myself. Especially in the early stage of song writing, I will get lots of ideas when I am on a bus, in a shower or just having walk. Most often I’ll just write down on my phone a thought I just had, or a whole sentence/verse that came to my head. Oh and wine of course!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Somewhere between New York, London and Los Angeles, making music.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
Catching up on all TV Shows and movies, going in depth with all things makeup/skincare, probably eating ramen.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
Bastille ‘Oblivion’ and Foo Fighters ‘Everlong’.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
A friend of mine keeps telling me to knock on all doors possible – the worst you can get is a no, which you already have anyway, and the best you can get is anything else.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
To stay true to yourself and rely on writing, making your own music.
