What is the band’s name?
Methods

How did you come up with the band’s name?
We had a WhatsApp group and threw ideas around for months, but it started to make us feel sick. Methods was the first name we came up with which didn’t make us ill.

What is your genre of music?
I suppose indie music fans would appreciate it, it’s a bit dark, uplifting, it can be heavy or sparse, electronic and infectious, but mainly intense. Let’s call it Alternative Indie.

Give us a little bio about you.
Some of us are from Wolverhampton, some from Salford. 5 individuals who all bring our unique thing to the table. We formed in 2015 and have written a lot of songs in that time, played some decent sized gigs, 2019 saw us go up a notch again. We don’t follow the crowd, we are in our own little bubble, just doing things the way we want to do them.

Are you a signed?
No

You released your new EP, tell us more about the EP.

You released your new EP, tell us more about the EP.
The EP is a selection of songs we wrote and recorded over the last 2 years. We sat down and chose the songs we thought would work best together in this format. It’s got highs and lows, moments of despair, confusion and then joy. It demands repeated listens to really start to uncover what’s hidden underneath. The first track on the EP ‘Back Of Your Hand’ is about TV and media controlling us, or trying to. It’s about the two-faced politicians arguing then being best friends to look good or make a point because that’s what they think people want to see, dumbing down the common people, benefitting themselves. All the songs on the EP are kind of about that subject really. The last track, Human Existence is questioning everything and anything, that’s why the EP is called ‘ANYTHING’.

What is the meaning behind the EP?
Each song has a different theme, collectively you can take anything you like from it, as long as it causes an emotion, it’s done its job. THING

Describe each track in two words.
Back of Your Hand – Fuckin’ Massive
Collector – Politely Grim
No Cover – Love Strings
Human Existence – Dirty Ballad

What was the writing process like?
Different for each song.  Back of Your Hand took a couple of hours to write and complete. No Cover had the initial idea floating round for ages, but didn’t really take off until we came up with the idea of the chorus and decided we needed an orchestra on it. Human Existence was an older track that we had knocking around for a while but never really did anything with until the EP came along. The writing process is constantly happening even when we aren’t in the studio or at the lock up. Everyday there’s new ideas being sent backwards and forward between us then when we get together the song is pretty much complete and just needs tweaking and rehearsing.

What was the recording process like?
Really fun. We recorded with our old mate Gavin Monaghan at magic Garden Studios. Gav always comes up with interesting ideas to take the songs out of their comfort zone.

Will we see a music video for any of the tracks?
Back of Your Hand has a great animated video directed by Dan crew, its available on YouTube. Watch this space on another video.

Do you have any shows coming up?
30th November – Clarendon hotel in Wolverhampton. Putting a mega night on. And IT’S FREE. What more do you want?

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any upcoming artists?
Not at the minute but watch this space. There may be a cheeky remix before the end of the year.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
We are always open to anything. Just through the website or social media.

Do you play any instruments?
Yes. See question 1 haha

Who are your influences?
We all bring a range of influences. We like Bowie, Nick Cave, Punk Rock, Dub, House, Post Punk. It’s all in there.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Normally just walking about, just something will come to us. Starting humming stuff into the recorder in the phone and send it each other. Other times, something really shit will happen in the news, or to one of us, and we think….we should write a song about that.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Somewhere warm

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
We all have day jobs, families.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
For me it would have been something when I was very young, I remember seeing footage of Glastonbury 95, Oasis, Live Forever and thinking, yes, I want that.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
If they are bigger than you, kick ‘em in the bollocks.”

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Just do what feels right, if it feels wrong, its wrong.
