POP-ROCK SIX PIECE ‘KING CALAWAY’ ARE READY TO TAKE ON THE MUSIC SCENE AND I GOT THE CHANCE TO CHAT WITH SIMON ALL ABOUT THEIR ALBUM, SINGLE AND MORE! CHECK IT OUT.

What is your name/band name?
Simon Dumas from King Calaway

What is your genre of music?
Pop with some rock influence

How did you come up with the band’s name?
Our drummer used to work with a guy whose surname is “Calloway.” We thought it had a cool universal feel to It. We then added “King” for an extra kick.

Give us a little bio about you.
We are a band of six guys from the UK and US. We all shared a vision of being in a band made up of real musicians and with a big focus on vocals and harmonies. We met In Nashville and have been touring around the states and UK for the last year.

You just released your brand-new album ‘Rivers’, tell us more about it.
Recording Rivers was a really special time for us as a band. We got to work with two incredible producers: Ross Copperman and Robert Deaton and the creative time spent in the studio was really incredible. We tracked the album over about a week, recording all the songs in a ‘live’ raw setting, recording vocals live too. We want fans who hear us at a show to hear what they love on the album. With that in mind we decided if we couldn’t play it live it wouldn’t make it on the record.

What is the meaning behind the single ‘Drivers Seat’?
Ahhh Drivers Seat is a fun one. It’s about taking a risk, taking a chance, stepping out of the status quo with the one you love and just having a bit of an adventure.

Describe each track in two words.
I’d say the whole album is pretty ANTHEMIC with singable MELODIES about real emotions.

Do you have any shows coming up?
We’ve got a couple of shows lined up in the States and a trip to Australia for a festival in Brisbane this November to look forward to.

We just saw you on the Late Late Show with James Corden. What was the best part about being on the show?
Every bit of it was so incredible! Meeting James was madness but I think the moment he held up our album and introduced us was really really special. A big ‘pinch me’ moment.

. What else can we expect in 2019 and early 2020?
We hope to get out on the road in early 2020 perhaps on a support slot for a tour while working on new music

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any upcoming artists?
Nothing official but if you know anyone interested tell them to hit us up!!

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you?
Absolutely! Kacey Musgraves… what’s your schedule like???

What instrument/s do you play?
Between the 6 of us we have (some doubled up) to make 3 acoustic guitar players, two keyboard players, two electric guitar players, a bassist and a solid drummer.

Who are your influences?
The Eagles for their harmonies and brilliant musicianship. Coldplay for their anthems

Where do you see yourself and the band in 5 years?
Hopefully on a plane heading to London for a headline show at Wembley Stadium!

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
Most of us just hang out. Austin works out a lot. I reads a lot. A few of the others help out at local churches.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
To walk behind. Never believe the fame. And literally walk behind, whether it’s into the lift or out of the door. Humans weren’t created for fame so never believe it!

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry, but just as an artist?
Trust your talent! Keep working hard and trust yourself and your instinct.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Hakuna Matata

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Guitar picks!! A spare T-shirt, a sharpie, some hair gel, and some water

Does the band have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yes, you can follow us @kingcalaway on all social media platforms. We’re a good laugh so hit follow!
