Taylor Grey

Edgy pop
Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a singer-songwriter from California, who loves touring and writing music – all while pursuing a degree from Stanford University.
What made you go into music?
I was really shy as a kid so my mom signed me up to audition for the school musical. I was hooked ever since. I started writing songs in middle school and soon realized that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Are you a signed?
Yes I’m signed to Kobalt.
You have released your new single ‘Intentionally’, tell us more about the single.
I wrote this song over a year and half ago. Originally it was for another artist, but I never found myself able to give it away. It’s become a representation of me – it’s a quirky pop song and it seems very typical, then it just hits you with some “funky” language (aka a lot of swear words). It’s unexpected but feels comfortable at the same time.
What is the meaning behind the single?
It’s about the feeling when someone makes you fall in love with them. It’s embodies “ugh I don’t want to need you but I do” and “I hate that I love you”
Describe the track in two words.
Cute & quirky
What was the writing process like?
The plan was to write it for another artist at first, so it was never about a direct experience in my life. But that allowed me to be really open to changing lyrics and making the song the best it could be.
What was the recording process like?
We used a lot of the vocals from the demo actually because it had an organic quality to it. We really tried to keep it simple, staccato, and quirky.
Who did you work with on the single?
Nico Stadi (Justin Bieber, Lindsey Sterling, Jason Derulo) and Josh Abraham (P!nk, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Kelly Clarkson)

Be patient.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
I’m fine, everything is going to be fine. I just repeat that to myself when I get nervous or stressed. I like it because I’m not promising myself that everything is going to be amazing, because sometimes things aren’t always amazing – but it will be alright, and I will survive.
