Alexis Zuniga

What is the band’s name?
BlueAshes

Shila’s cat is Ashes, he has blue eyes, Shila has blue eyes, Alexis was tipsy. We mixed that up and got: BlueAshes.

What is your genre of music?
Hard rock

Give us a little bio about you.
Shila comes from Electronic music background, she’s Danish. Quite well-known in her country.
20 years of experience. Alexis is from Colombia, made his music career with Marrocko, a popular band in his City. 20 years of experience.

What made you go in to music?
Shila’s dad was a musician, so that connection with music is natural.
Alexis discovered his music passion in his 20s, when he dropped out of college to fully pursue music career. The stage power is like the “dark side” in Star Wars. It calls you, and I can’t resist. lol

Are you a signed?
No

You released your DEBUT EP ‘Walking Solo’ , tell us more about the EP.
This first 5 songs were the result of hard working process. We recorded this EP at our home studio, and we made our own videos. It’s not easy, and less easy if you have a new born together. Our songs are about personal experiences. There is a different and honest story behind every song.

What is the meaning behind the EP?
Our EP is the reflection of our desire to make good honest music. I mean, these songs were conceived as natural as we could make them. Not trying to impress or please the market but ourselves. We think an honest proposal can be well received from our upcoming fans.

Describe each track in two words.
Walking Solo: powerful truth
Broken love: talkbox rock
Time will tell: hope love
I don’t care: greencard hope
Fire of Madness: Alexis and Shila

What was the writing process like?
Well, sometimes the song writing is very easy, sometimes it is not. We are Husband and Wife, so sometimes we have to stop and do something else when we get stubborn with our ideas lol. We have to negotiate. But most of the time, we do well , and it’s fun, especially with a glass of wine.

What was the recording process like?
We have a home studio. When we were ready to record the EP, we found out Shila was expecting Mila Mariposa, then pregnancy made it hard to record. Alexis plays all the instruments except the drums. Control freak, nah.

Will we see a video for any of the tracks?
You can find 3 official videos on Youtube: Fire of Madness, Broken Love and Time Will Tell.

Do you have any shows coming up or a tour in planning?
We have a professional studio session at Full Sail University in Orlando this May.

If so where will you be heading?
Orlando and South Florida shows.

What else can we expect in 2019?
The full album is coming this year. We will try to play live as much as we can.

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any upcoming artists?
No yet.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
We are open to make good music, so yes. They can log on to our website www.blueashesmusic.com and click contact. Or Instagram and Facebook @blueashesmusic. Anywhere , these days it is very easy.

Do you play any instruments?
Alexis: Guitar, bass, keyboard, drums (very little)
Shila: Vocals, piano.

Who are your influences?
Alexis: More than influences, here are artists that we like:
Lenny Kravitz, Bonjovi, Zakk wylde, Richie Sambora, the list is endless. Shila: Joss stone, Etah James, Aretha Franklin, Phil Collins.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
We try to write about our personal experiences. That makes the songs more honest and meaningful.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Having a good crowd, big stage, living from music with more than 3 albums out. Happy.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
We are full-time parents. So we try to do normal stuff as family. Get with friends, or watch movies at home, with ice cream and popcorn. Very healthy, lol.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
Alexis: it should’ve been a Rock song, I don’t remember, maybe instead of one, it was a lot of them.
Shila: I don’t remember, maybe having a Dad that was a musician, singer and guitar player put me on the long path of the music.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
Don’t quit unless it isn’t fun anymore.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Do what you love.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Alexis: You have to try, cuz if you don’t try, you will never know if you will succeed. If you don’t succeed, at least you tried. Try hard!
Shila: It’s better to fail in something you love, instead of failing in something you hate.
