What are your names?
Frida Farrell and Isabel Latz
What is the bands name.
2 Paper Dolls
How did you come up with the band name?
I loved playing with paper dolls as a child and we found it very fitting in todays world where we are extremely vulnerable as if we’re made up out of paper and being played by the media like little dolls…
What is your genre of music?
Alt electro pop mixed with some melodic folk, I think.
Give us a little background about yourself.
We’re both from Europe, Sweden and Germany but met here in LA and have been playing together for about 5 years.
What made you decide to go in to music?
One day I (Frida) was driving along and I suddenly had to pull on to the side of the road and stop the car to write a song that was literally just “falling” into my head. And from that moment it never stopped. I usually write songs in about 20-30 minutes. if it starts taking hours and I get stuck its not working and I just move on to the next.
Isabel was part of a punk rock band for quite a few years back in Germany while growing up so she has always been involved in music one way or another.
Are you a signed?
No, we’re not signed. We wish………..!!
Your debut release ‘ Not Alright , tell us more about it.
I (Frida) wrote the song one night when my boyfriend at the time had just dumped me, over the phone (!) because he didn’t want to lie to his wife (!) about me anymore. I was pretty upset. So decided to just write down how I felt and “Not Alright” was born. I sent the lyrics to Isabel and she came up with a melody. We rehearsed it back and forth for a few weeks, tweaked it here and there until we both finally felt happy with it. And voila!
Describe the track in two words.
Angry. Heartbroken.
What was the writing process like?
Fast. It fell out of my head in about 20 min. I was angry so that probably helped…haha.
What was the recording process like?
Isabel played the guitars, sent them to our producer, he created the rest of the track, then he sent me the final version and I laid down the vocals at a fantastic studio in Sweden in about 2 hours. We mixed it. Done.
Who did you work with on the track?
Isabel and James, our producer.

Will we see an EP or album this year and if so what can we expect?
We’re trying to release another EP but not sure if we have the funds, if not we’ll do a bunch of singles 🙂
Do you have any shows coming up or a tour in planning?
No, I think we’d like to release a few more songs first so we have more material and then start planning a small tour or try and open for a bigger artist.
What else can we expect in 2019?
At least another single and a music video.
Do you have any collaborations coming up with any up coming artists?
No, but we’d love to!!
Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
Just reach out to us through our website, it would be great to collaborate with other artists!
Do you play any instruments?
Frida plays piano and Isabel plays guitar and drums.
Who are your influences?
Growing up I (Frida) listened to mainly African American singers. Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Gabrielle, Sade, Bob Marley, Counting Crows, Ben Harper, Prince, James Brown etc
And Isabel grew up listening to The Cure, Green Day, The Cardigans, Radiohead, The Police, Queen, Millencolin, various boy groups and the Spice Girls (it was the 90s!), and German punk-bands
How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Life. Shit that happens in life. Everything I write about has happened to me one way or another at some point in life.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Doing exactly what we’re doing now but on a bigger scale. Hopefully surviving on only making music. That would be amazing.
When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
I (Frida) take care of a 2 year old. It’s a lot of work….
What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
Anna Begins with Counting Crows. I (Frida) just couldn’t get enough of it, I think I’ve listened to it about 2000 times.
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Although I’m (Frida) always too hard on myself…
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Stay as true to yourself as you can master. There’s an audience for all kinds of music. If you love it someone else will too.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
How you do some things is how you do everything. If your sloppy in some areas you’re likely to be sloppy in other areas too….
