INDIE ROCK N ROLL BAND CHAY SNOWDON GIVES US AN INSIGHT ABOUT WHO THEY ARE, THEIR NEW MUSIC AND WHAT 2019 HAS IN STORE FOR THEM! GIVE OUR CHAT A READ!

What is your name?

Chay Snowdon

What is your genre of music?

Indie Rock n Roll/ Indie Pop

Give us a little bio about you.

We are an Indie Pop/ Indie Rock n Roll four piece outfit based in Bristol, originally from Plymouth. Four mates who met at school and university who just love making music!

What made you go in to music?

One of my earliest memories was listening to Elvis in the car with my mum and dad. Not only did that spark a huge love for the King of Rock n Roll, but also an obsession to not only listen to, but play music as well!

Are you a signed?

We are completely DIY at the moment.

Your set to release two new singles ‘ Mon Cheri’ & ‘Sha La La’, tell us more about them.

Definitely! Mon Cheri is about admiring someone who just goes off traveling to see the world, but also being a little bit envious that you haven’t gone a long for the ride.

Sha La La is a slower song that follows two people on a night out together and having the time of their lives.

Describe the tracks in two words.

Energetic. Ambient.

What was the writing process like?

The writing process was different for both tracks.

‘Sha La La’ was a regular within our live set as it was written a few years before hand. Whereas, ‘Mon Cheri’ was written very recently which is always more of a risk as we didn’t have the time to gage a crowds reaction live like we did for ‘Sha La La’. But the reception was been great for both tunes whenever we’ve had the opportunity to play them live!

What was the recording process like?

We initially went in to only record ‘Mon Cheri’, which was a very quick and smooth process. So much so, that we had some studio time left over and decided to record ‘Sha La La’ too! Two tracks in one session is a new record for us!

What is the message you want listeners to take from the singles?

I would say its to do exactly what you want to do in life.

Where can we buy the singles from?

They will be available to purchase and stream on all online platforms. Physical copies will also be available at all live shows!

Will we see an EP or album soon and if so what can we expect from that?

There will definitely be an album in the future! When we are finally ready you can expect it to be the in your face sing a long tunes of ‘Mon Cheri’, with a few ‘Sha La La’ esque ballads thrown in for good measure!

What can we expect in 2019?

We plan on hitting the festival circuit hard this year, as well as a tour or two! It’s also still early in the year, so who knows maybe there will be another release on the cards too …

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any up coming artists?

No we don’t as of yet … Although we’d love to collab with a rap or grime artist in the future!

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?

Definitely! Get in contact with me (Chay) through any of our social media.

Do you play any instruments?

I do! I play the guitar as well as sing. Liam Roberts is on lead guitar and backing vocals, George Roach plays the Bass and sings a few backing vocals and Ed Fox is the drummer.

Who are your influences?

As I mentioned earlier Mr Elvis Presley is a huge influence! As well as modern bands like Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Catfish and the Bottlemen … The list goes on!

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

I usually hear a line that I think would make a good hook line! I then form the song around that … So the inspiration tends to come from one word or line!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

In 5 years we’d love to be able to make a living solely from our music … That’s the dream!

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

Usually walking my two dogs, ones a Chug and the other is a little dog we rescued from Spain.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

Probably … ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ by Arctic Monkeys, what a tune!

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

It doesn’t matter whether there’s 100 people in a room or one … Always give the same performance.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Listen to loads of different music genres … If you stick to the one genre, you could run the risk of sounding like a copycat artist.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

It’ll always work out in the end …

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?

Gotta be Plymouths number 1 eatery Caffeine Club … It’s basically a land mark there now. Oh, and maybe the barbican or the hoe.

Your coming off tour;

1/ Where do you go first? Home!!! Definitely go home first after a tour.

2/ Who do you see first? Again, my dogs … Oh and my family of course haha!

3/What do you eat first? It’s gotta be caffeine club!

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
