What are your names?

Adrian

Machine Age

How did you come up with the bands name?

My childhood nickname is age and I started the project mainly has a recording project with the aid of many modern music making machines.

What is your genre of music?

Experimental – Rock – Electronic – Folk – Industrial – take your pick.

What made you go in to music?

My older brothers

Are you a signed?

Nope

You recently released a new single ‘Daggers’, tell us more about it.

I’ve been a big fan of Slumberjack for a while. A great friend introduced us and we got together the day before they played Splendour in the Grass (Australia’s Glastonbury)

What was the writing process like?

At the time of our first writing session the boys were living somewhere between Perth and LA and we only had a small window of time before they had to prep for their massive Splendour set. So rather than working on a song from scratch I showed them a super rough piano demo of Daggers as something we could work on. They loved it and we got the bones of the track together that day.

What was the recording process like?

I recorded a bunch of Beats, Keys, Guitars, Vocals and Live drums with my drummer Dylan Stewart. Then there was a lot of back and forth sharing parts and arrangements ideas as Slumberjack toured overseas.

What is the message you want listeners to take from the single?

Life too short to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Describe the track in two words.

Fucking awesome

Will we see an EP or Album soon?

Absolutely! Finishing a large body of work at the moment for release next year.

A willingness to be reckless with genre. A wide range of sounds from Industrial Electronic rock tracks to quiet organic acoustic tracks and everything in-between.

A few local shows but mostly spending time in the studio

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any up coming artists?

Nope

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?

Always keen, Hit up the Machine Age Facebook stage.

Do you play any instruments?

My first instrument is trumpet but yeah bit of a jack of all trades master of a couple these days.

Who are your influences?

I’m the youngest of 4 boys and inherited my music taste from my 3 older brothers. One was into 60’s/70’s Psych rock, another Blues and Jazz and the other pop and electronica. It wasn’t till I was 15 or so that I started to distil that down into my own influences.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

It can come from anywhere but I love visual stimulation whether it’s watching a film a photograph or going for a hike in the great outdoors.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

Hopefully talking to you about my latest record.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

I love walking my dogs

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

Couldn’t pick one but I remember seeing Aussie band Powderfinger play when I was 15 and I knew I wanted to do music one day. The catch was I didn’t even know how to play guitar.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

Don’t sit around waiting for inspiration to strike or saying you wish you had more time to write. Make writing a regular daily routine even if it’s humming an idea into your phone on the commute to work.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Do it because you love it

“Just keep swimming” Dory Finding Nemo

I’m from Cairns in Far North Queensland and yeah it’s the gateway to the Rainforest and The Great Barrier Reef.
