The Spitfires

I’ve had the name of the band since I was about 11

What is your genre of music?

We’re a punk band I suppose

Give us a little bio about you.

We’ve recently released our new album Year Zero and we’re currently on a tour of UK & Ireland

What made you go in to music?

Watching bands on the telly when I was a kid made me want to do music I suppose. I’ve only ever wanted to be in a band.

Are you a signed?

Our last album was released on Hatch Records

You recently released your album, ‘Year Zero,’ tell us more about it.

It’s been brilliantly received by fans and had some great reviews too. I just think it’s a great classic sounding album. With 10 individually good songs.

What was the writing process like?

It was over a long period of time and I just wrote as we went along really. Nothing was finished until it was recorded.

What was the recording process like?

Good fun but again over a long period of time. But maybe time was what we needed so we could go back and work on songs far more than we had in the past

What is the message you want listeners to take from the Album?

It don’t have to be this way.

You are on your ‘Year Zero Tour’, how has it been going?

Yes it’s been going great. The band have never sounded better.

Which cities have you been too?

We’ve been to Southend, Norwich and Germany so far.

Where was the best City for you?

Hamburg was the best gig for me. The crowd are always great there.

What else can we expect from you this year?

Just the gigs I’m afraid

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?

Depends on the person I suppose and what they meant by a collaboration. I tend to keep my writing to myself to be honest, even when it comes to the rest of the band. I’m not the most open person about it.

Do you play any instruments?

I play guitar and a tiny bit of keys

Who are your influences?

Weller, Strummer, Dammers, Heaton and Bragg

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

I just find that anything I feel particularly strongly about or I have an opinion on naturally seems to find it’s way into a song.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

Hopefully still doing this. But playing to more people and selling more records.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

Not much if I’m honest. I go down the pub.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

Just to stick to my guns I suppose. Everyone has an opinion but it’s my own gut feeling that I should stick with.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Just keep doing it. Regardless of how tough it gets, you’ve gotta keep at it.

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?

The train station. It’ll get you back out of there.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?

The words, the chords, honey, lemons and cigarettes
