THE ELECTRONIC/SOUL TRAP SINGER SONGWRITER ‘RHEA’ HAS DROPPED HER LATEST SONG ‘ IN THE NIGHT’ AND READY TO SHOW CASE SO MUCH MORE, GET TO SEE WHAT ELSE SHE HAS PLANNED IN OUR CHAT RIGHT HERE!

What is your name?

RHEA

What is your genre of music?

Electronic/Soul/Trap

Give us a little bio about you.

I’m a singer/songwriter and I grew up in South London and Spain – I love to experiment with beats and melodies so the RHEA project formed, I grew up on a mix of Jazz, hip hop and soul, so kinda wanted to fuse them together but in a contemporary way, using interesting sonics as the backdrop creating a cool soundscape.

What made you go in to music?

Honestly, I couldn’t not, it’s like it’s part of me, if I didn’t do it my soul wouldn’t be happy

Are you a signed artist?

No, I don’t think you need to be signed these days, I have released my last 3 tracks through Ferocious who are great.

You recently released ‘ In The Night’ what can you tell us about it?
In The Night came from a really real place, we’ve all been there when you wake up in the middle of the night and everything thought & emotion is intensified, I wanted to be honest about that, when your mind starts racing & your deepest and darkest fears take a hold.  It’s not just fear though, it’s about passion, love, being far away from someone, and that yearning to be close, it’s about being lost in the depths of our mind that seem so heightened “In The Night”

What was the writing process like?

Really easy actually, writing is therapeutic for me so it’s good to catch that vibe and just write – I’m lucky I work with people who are really encouraging but honest as well, so they’ll tell you when they like something as well as when they don’t lol…It’s helps you get the best results though

What was the recording process like?

Myself and producer Happy Cat Jay were in his studio and playing around with sounds, dark, progressive synth builds & I got the hook “Are You There” which I sang over the top as it conjured up thoughts of missing someone, and feeling alone.  The rest of the lyrics flew out of me like it was something I needed to get off my chest…

where can it be bought or streamed?

On all steaming platforms

Who did you show the track to first?

I played it first to Kwame at Ferocious, he A&R’s all my stuff

Describe it in two words.

Haunting, Luxurious

Will we see a video for In The Night?

Not for this one, although I would like to do it for the next maybe!

Can we expect a EP or Album this year?
I’m just dropping singles at the min but there will be an album/mixtape which I plan on working on in LA.

Do you have any gigs or tours coming up?
My fanbase is really growing over in the US and I’ve got gigs coming up in LA very soon so I’m looking forward to that

If so where will you be going?
A small US tour will be happening in the Autumn

Do you play any instruments?

A little bit of keys I’m pretty rusty!

Who are your influences?

Erykah Badu, Nina Simone, Angie Stone, Dwele – Love them all

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

I like to write about how I feel at the time and I hope people can relate to that. We experiment a lot with different sonics and beats which usually triggers my melodies… I love melodies, that’s my thing so it’s fun to play with interesting hooks over the top.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

Hopefully with a couple of albums under my belt and touring Europe and the US

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

I love to cook and either go to the gym or do yoga – I also paint, I find it really relaxing, so when I have the time I like to do that!
