What are your names?
Clarice & Simon

What is the bands name?
Amethysts

How did you come up with the duo name?
Amethyst is both of our birth stone.

What is your genre of music?
Indie Electronic/ Ambient Pop

Give us a little bio about you as a duo and individuals.
Both born in early March (Pisces), our birthstone is Amethyst. We love Gin, Faux Fur and have a fetish for old synthesisers. You’ll find us in our studio playing drums on a Roland 505 whilst jamming along with an Omnichord and some guitar loops.

What made you go in to music?
We both started playing music at school. Its how we met and we just clicked.

You released your single ‘Be There’, tell us more about it
Be There explores and conveys the passion and ambition in us both, lyrically and musically. Clarice took to writing the lyrics from an optimistic yet emotional place hoping it would help to self heal during a personal family affair.

What was the recording process like?
We were jamming with a loop pedal, looping some synths and a guitar and then we realized half way through we were playing in 6/8. Clarice then started humming the vocal line and everything fell into place. We recorded in our home studio so its always a relaxed un-pressured process.

Describe the track in two words.
Ambient pop.

You also released the video, what was the inspiration behind it?
The video is about two people divided. They’re trying to be there for each other but they’re divided by things they can’t control.

Do you have gigs coming up or a tour in planning?
We have a lot of gigs coming up in the few months, listed on our facebook and website.

What else can we expect from you.
We have a lot more in the pipeline!

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
If we clicked musically yes! Find us on social media (especially if you’re Bon Iver)!

Who are your influences?

To pick a few: Bon Iver, Fleetwood Mac, The XX, Jadu Heart

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Life is full of inspiration, good and bad. Writing music can heal hurt or reinforce happiness.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Hopefully still continuing to do what we love

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
Simon: Radiohead – All I Need (before I got into Radiohead I had no interest in electronic music)

Clarice: London Grammar – Hey Now

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
Follow your dreams and never give up

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Always be yourself, there isn’t another you.

Your coming off tour;
1/ Where do you go first?
To our house to see our cat
2/ Who do you see first?
My cat
3/What do you eat first?
An Indian take away
