What are your names?
Catherine McCandless and Stephen Ramsay
What is the band name?
Young Galaxy
How did you meet each other?
In a record store in Vancouver, Canada
You just released ‘Elusive Dream’, what can you tell us about it?
It’s a song about how incredibly disappointing and impermanent everything is. I had writer’s block at the time – when I finally wrote the first verse, I wept like a baby. Not that it’s that good, it just summed up a lot about what I had been feeling about the world at that moment.
Describe the song in two words.
Sade b-side
When you’re not making music, what do you do?
Raise children. It’s more than a full time job.
Where would your dream venue to play in your hometown?
In Montreal, I’d love to headline Metropolis or ‘M Telus’, as it’s now been ridiculously re-named.
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
It’s better to remain in silence and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians about the industry?
The music industry is parasitic in nature. Don’t be seduced by labels and industry types who want to work with you – they will 100% try to exploit you. Retain control and ownership as much as possible.
You get off a plane in your hometown,
1/ where is the first place you visit
In Nanaimo B.C., my parent’s home
2/ where is the first place you see
Um… the airport terminal?
3/ where is the first food place you go and what do you get
I go to a rural pub called The Crow And Gate for a pint of Guinness and crab cakes.
