PROWESS ARE HALF WAY THROUGH THEIR NATIONAL TOUR ‘10,000 MILES & A CLOUD OF DUST’ AND CHAT TO ME ABOUT THEIR MUSIC AND HOW ITS GOING!!

What are your names?
Dalton (vox), Scott (guitar), Kenny (bass) and Adam (drums)

How did you come up with the band’s name ‘Prowess’?
Kenny – “It kind of came organically, we had kicked around other names but this one kind of rolled off the tongue and it’s meaning made sense for our music.”

What is your genre of music?
Scott- “Straight rock n roll!”
Adam- “Definitely metal”
Give us a little bio about you.
Scott – “We’re a rock n’ roll band that wants to take your lunch money.”

What made you go into music?
Kenny – “I’m not sure honestly. When I was younger my cousin had a guitar and I just kind of ran with it.”
Dalton – “Seeing bands like the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith and having that feeling of ‘I can do this’.”
Adam – “Growing up seeing my family play instruments.”

Are you a signed?
Scott – “No, we’re DIY at the moment, being a new band of only just over a year old. It is going well for us though, for sure. We’re growing, meeting new fans every day, getting it out there ya know? If a label comes along and can add to the growth, absolutely we’ll examine it, but in the meantime we’re just enjoying life as a fun-loving rock n roll band.”

You work with the Nü Echo Media PR, how did that come about?
Scott – “Cait from Nü Echo reached out to us about a PR campaign for our debut album. We talked with her and liked what she was about, she told us what she could do and she has delivered on her promises in spades!”

Tell us more about your music.
Dalton – “I’d say the music of the band was very much one person bringing in an idea when the band first started writing songs for the Headfirst EP. Now collectively the band’s influences are very much aligned, which has made the songs a lot more exciting for each of us. The new music is more heartfelt and real.”

Will you be releasing a new EP or Album?
Kenny – “Of course we will, new ideas are coming from everywhere.”
Scott – “We’ve got several new songs in the rotation currently that we have done pre-production sessions on. We’re in talks with some major folks in the industry about the next recording, and we and we’re looking to start work right after this tour. The first album was a great starting point for us, but we’re anxious to build on it. This next one will be a huge undertaking that has us working with a lot of new people in different studios, but we’re excited to get to work!”

You are on 2 month national tour, how are you feeling about it?
Kenny – “Excited, we are halfway done but it feels almost like we just left.”
Scott – “Like we’re right at home!”

What are you most looking forward to?
Kenny – “For me it was getting back out to the desert, I always loved the scenery out there.”
Scott – “Meeting new people to party with!”

What can we expect?
Kenny – “Rolling thunder, and a few crazy stories our Roadies have been posting every few days on our website.”

Where can tickets be purchased?
Scott – “Each show is different, some shows use an outside promoter, some shows are booked directly with the venues (when you’re DIY you make it fly, however you need to!), so each show is different in regard to tickets. Some shows on the tour are free even. Checking the website for the venue is usually the best way to find out!”

Will you have VIP packages?
Scott – “Every night! It’s called knock on the door of the RV and bring us some booze! We’ll be VIP’ing it up curbside the whole damn tour! We’re a fun band, come hang. We don’t bite.”

Who are your influences?
Kenny – “I grew up listening to whatever ever my parents played; Prince, Springsteen and similar, then my cousin showed me R&B, and eventually I fell into the punk Rock/ stoner rock bands.”
Scott – “Aussie pub rock ala AC/DC or Rose Tattoo, a healthy dose of 70’s rock like Skynyrd and of course blues. I also love funk music. Parliament is one of my favorite bands.”

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Kenny – “We all throw in our own styles and someone may have a cool riff or hook and we’ll expand on it or maybe we had recorded another riff months ago that fits well with it.”
Dalton- “ It can come from literally anywhere all you need is the spark of inspiration and the desire to make it your own”.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Kenny – “On an episode of behind the music (do they still do that?)”
Dalton – “The same place I am right now! I’ve never been happier.”
Adam – “Continuing to help keep music alive!”

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
Kenny – “Bartend, play guitar and write goofy country songs, talk to the cats… and other human things I guess.”
Scott – “Several of us do odd jobs together to make ends meet. A lot of times our friends and fans hire us to do anything from minor yard work or landscaping to major home repairs! Between the four of us we have some serious handyman skills!”
Adam – “ Eat, occasional workout and party liquor.”

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more into the music scene?
Scott – “When I was four I heard Hell’s Bells in a movie theater, loud as fuck, and I felt the hair stand up on my neck and goosebumps for the first time. That sealed it.”
Dalton – “Shout at the Devil by Motley Crüe. The anthemic aspect of the song hit me like a freight train.”
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
Kenny – “Don’t f**k it up”

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Kenny – “It’s a hard road, don’t let that jade you… you have to push. Keep your energy always.”
Scott – “ Do what you love. Don’t worry if people will think it is cool. If you’re doing what you love and doing it with passion and gusto, people will respect it whether they like it or not. Being genuine is still a hit with people.”
Adam – “The struggle is real”

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Dalton – “Everything’s just alright, alright, alright.”
Adam – “Keep on keepin on”

Kenny – “My hometown only had a military base, the town I live in… well you could just to whatever bar I’m working at.”
Scott – “Lots of cool dives serving live music in the Charlotte area, too many to list! Check out a local concert calendar and go see a show!”
Adam – “Lincoln Seafood, best tartar sauce hands down!”

You’re straight off your tour;

Kenny – “Home, then downtown.”
Dalton – “Home, then straight to get some of that fine North Carolina barbeque .”
2/ who do you see?
Kenny – “My son, his mother, my parents.”
Dalton – “My dogs.”
Adam – “Family and friends are a must.”
3/what do you eat?
Kenny – “Something that contains an insurmountable amount of fat…”
Dalton – “Barbecue!?”
Adam – “Whatever I can get my mitts on.”
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Kenny – “Picks, screwdriver, batteries, the songs, and your head.”

If you had to give your younger self advice, what would it be?
Kenny – “Nothing…I don’t want to change the space-time continuum!”
Scott – “Embrace tight pants!”
Dalton – “Beer works wonders on your hair.”
Adam – “Liquor is your best friend”

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
