I HAD A LITTLE CHAT WITH DJ DICK BUTCHER ABOUT ‘SUPERDRY – AUDIO 1’ ALBUM, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IT OUT AND BE READY FOR SO MUCH MORE!

What  is  your name?

Dick Butcher No really It’s my real name not a DJ name.

Tell us more about ‘Audio 1’.

In simple terms Audio1 is like it’s sub title suggests, the sounds of Superdry. The brand was started 30 years as a twinkle in the eye of the founder Julian Dunkerton with a small shop blasting out the tunes. Today the same pretty much applies, except there so many more shops and the shops themselves are so much bigger.  The album takes the listener on that musical journey with a soundtrack of great tunes full of energy.

What is the meaning behind the title.

Audio 1 was attached to the Sound of Superdry because the size of the brand and to reflects the many countries it has stores in. Audio was the most international word we could use and felt to be cool. It surpasses boarders.  It’s probably stating the obvious but the 1 is because its the first of many. The word ‘audio’ comes from the Latin audīre which means ‘to hear’.

Describe each track in 2 words.

Its a combination between Really banging and Banging and not so banging…. Sorry to cop out I really like each track on the album and two words are just not enough to proclaim my love for them…

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

More compilations  under the belt and a couple of top 10 original work albums. That’s the dream anyhow. Plus living in a world which is a bit more tolerant.

what do you do in your spare time?

Cook, family, dog and make noises for fun, life is good.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

When I was a kid I found this 80’s break tune by Man Parish called Hip Hop Be Bop. Its an electro break beat track that still amazes me today with its production. We’re currently trying to get permission for a cheeky remix.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

Listen, I mean really listen, not only to music but more importantly to others.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

Work Hard Play hard.

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?

I wouldn’t say where but when. Everyone should have the Cheltenham Jazz festival on their bucket list. Its 3 to 4 days of brilliant music on my door step, from Giles Peterson to Square Pusher it is amazing. Most years I’m lucky enough to play at the Ultimate House Party one of the festivals high lights.
