ALT – POP SINGER SONGWRITER ALEX DI LEO CHATS TO ME ABOUT HIS SINGLE ‘WHEN WE FIRST MET, NEW EP ‘SO WE GO’ AND HIS LIVE DATES!

What is  your name?

My name is Alex Di Leo and I’m an alternative/pop singer-songwriter from Fort Lauderdale, FL.

What is your genre of music?

My music falls in the genre of Alternative/Pop

Give us a little bio about you.

For my 10th birthday my grandma randomly bought be an acoustic guitar. I decided to start messing with it. Eventually I put a band together and started winning talent shows and battle of the bands and thought, maybe I should dive into this a little more. Through high school I had a hard rock band called Wyld Fly. We put out an EP but shortly after the group ended. I spent the last 2 and half years recording a lot of different music..from Country, Americana, Adult Contemporary, Pop, and then I found my producer. Someone that understood what I was hearing in my head.

Tell us more about your music.

My music inspiration comes and goes..For the most part I write about life experiences I’ve had that have impacted me in some way.

Tell us more about ‘ When We First Met’

When We First Met is based on the relationship I had started just before writing this EP. Never let people tell you who you should love.

What was the writing process like?

The inspiration came pretty quick for When We First Met. I wrote every part except the post chorus in an hr that day. I actually like the way most of the lyric is direct.

What was the recording process like?

Recording with Josh was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my career so far. I hadn’t met someone that understood what I was hearing in my head as much as he did. From the minute we met we clicked. We were really flexible partners throughout the process. We had ideas that one of us wouldn’t like at first but after giving it a shot we realized it was important to try new things and get outside of our comfort zone.

The lyric video is also out, what was the process like creating the video?

My friend Josiah, who directed the video came to my house to film a cover video I was doing if the song “Paris” by The Chainsmokers. He took a lot of B-roll shots of the plants, water, and sky in my backyard and we decided to use that footage and make it kinda trippy looking by distorting the images and hats how the “When We First Met” video came about.

You have also released EP ‘So We Go’, Tell us more about that.

My EP “So We Go” was recently released this past November 2016. The vibe throughout is pretty up beat and positive. It talks a lot about taking chances, falling in love, and always having a positive out look ok life.

How did you pick the tracks for EP, do you have more tracks that in you songbook that you wished you put on the EP?

I picked the tracks in the natural way the song ideas came to me. The last song that was picked was “Waking Up.” I was showing my producer, Josh Diaz, my catalog and he thought that one was the type of song we were missing. At the time I had a different recorded version of it and didn’t quite see the vision Josh had for it. But I’m really glad he talked me into it as it’s one of my favorite tracks off the EP.

At the time I had many other ideas but I decided I’d put them out afterwards. I was focused on getting some songs out at the time.

Your also playing ‘Jet Blue Stage’ at Sun Fest, how did that come about?

I’m super excited to be a part of SunFest 2017. They were looking for local band support and I was picked.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

Lately I’ve been so busy that my life has been 90% music. But when I’m not busy with my music I like to travel, which keeps me inspired.. I like to cook, play basketball and relax in the sun.

Where would your dream venue to play in your hometown?

My dream venue to play in my hometown would be the Fillmore on Miami Beach.

If so how can they contact you?

Of course I’ve collaborated several times with an unsigned artist. They could reach me at info@alexanderdileo.com

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

There was definitely more than one song that continued to influence me into the music scene. Stuff like “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers, “How To Save a Life” by The Fray, and “Clocks” by Coldplay. Also some U2 stuff as well.

Where is your dream festival to perform?

I’ve never been..but I’ve seen so many videos and can’t imagine how Incredible it’d be to perform at Glastonbury.

What made you go in to music?

I got into music because of the fact that my grandma had randomly gifted me a guitar. I think I would’ve found my way into music regardless though.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

To always believe in yourself and what you’re doing if you truly think it’s meant for you. Never take no for an answer. Keep pushing. Be yourself.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not just about the industry also just as an artist/band?

Some advice I’d give to an artist/band starting out is..

Write a lot of material, make friends with bands in your area, play many shows and network.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

I recently came across a quote that has changed the way I think.

“I’d rather die with memories than dreams.”

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?

When I’m on a gig I can’t forget my acoustic guitar lol a few other things would be my mic, cables, a few guitar pics, etc. I have a case that holds everything I need. So basically I need that case and my guitar every time..and a set list lol.

You come off  Tour

1/ Where is the first place you go? The first place I’ll go when I go from tour is most likely my bed.

2/Who is the first person you see? I’ll probably be greeted by my family lol.

3/What is the first thing you eat. The first thing I’d eat is probably going to be a steak.

You work with The Catalyst Publicity Group, LLC, how did that come about?

Catalyst Publicity Group was referred to me by my producer Josh. His band had previously used them and said they were great.
