TAKING ON THE UK IS AUSSIE SINGER/SONGWRITER JACK CARTY,GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HIM , TOURING AND RELEASING HIS FOURTH ALBUM ‘HOME STATE’

What is your names?

Jack Carty

What is your genre of music?

Singer-Songwriter/Indie-Folk

Give us a little bio about you.

I come from a little town called Bellingen on the Mid North Coast of NSW Australia and I’m a songwriter. I started off releasing music and touring around Australia and now I get to do it a little more widely. I’ve just released my 4th album ‘Home State’.

What made you go in to music?
I could only describe it as a compulsion, I have always felt compelled to do it.

Are you a signed?

Yes, and no. That depends on what country you are in when you ask that question.

You released ‘All At Once’ tell us more about that.

It’s track one from my new album ‘Home State’ and I wrote it about a year and a half ago – around the time of my first ever U.K shows – with a really talented English songwriter by the name of Blair Dunlop. We wrote it in an afternoon in his apartment and it’s been amazing and exciting to see the way in which it’s gone out into the world over the past couple of weeks and months.

You have an album coming out as well, what can you tell us about it?

It’s called ‘Home State’, it’s my fourth full length album and it’s actually already available for digital purchase and streaming. I produced and engineered the whole thing myself in my old apartment in Red Hill, Brisbane Australia and played every instrument aside from the bass and one or two guitar parts.

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any up coming artists?

Yes! I’m about to start work on a record with a brilliant Australian musician and composer named Gus Gardiner. Alongside playing bass for artists and bands like Kita, Montaigne, Papa Vs. Pretty and Jack River he is an amazing classical cellist and we are working on a collaboration involving strings. I’m also writing a lot with all sorts of wonderful people whilst in the U.K.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?

If there is time and chemistry I am always up for exploring new territory. Best just to get in touch via my Facebook page.

Do you have gigs coming up or a tour in planning?

Yes! I am currently on a U.K album launch tour – it’s been a good time so far.

Who are your influences?

Elliott Smith, Ryan Adams, Nick Drake, Beck, Neil Young, Josh Pyke, Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Paul Kelly, Cat Stevens, Conor Oberst – just to name a few.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

Getting inspired doesn’t seem to be the hard bit – it’s the channelling it well that can be tricky.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

Living a happy, healthy life with my wife (and maybe even some kids by then) making music I want to make and still exploring.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

I listen to A LOT of history podcasts. I also like kissing my wife and seeing the world.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

It’s hard to pick just one… Perhaps “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright” by Bob Dylan.

If you had one of your songs played on a TV show or Film which woild you want it to be?

Perhaps ‘Garden State’? I loved that soundtrack!

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

Wherever possible, live with love.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Know what you are doing, stay true to that, create honestly and see it through.
