INTRODUCING ‘THE NOVACHORDS’ WITH THEIR DEBUT SINGLE ‘NIGHTMARE’ GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM!

 What is your bands name?

The Novachords

What is the reason behind the band’s name?

The Novachord was the first synthesizer. All my songs start with me sat at the piano searching for the new [nova] chords. The Novachords also sounds like a barbershop quartet from space. Which I love.

What are your names?

The roll call for song ‘Nightmare’ was…

Vocal: Dominic Lawson

Piano / Organ: Dan Syder

Drums: Pete Bill

Bass: Dan Harries

Cello: Anna Ryland Jones

Violin: Emily Mowbray

Backing Vocal: Francesca Britten

The Novachords are an open door policy collective but I’ll always be in the studio with the song.

What is your genre of music?

Good music. Production wise it’s hip-hop. Song wise it’s the blues.

Give us a little bio about you as individuals and as a band

All met while I was studying at Manchester’s School of Sound Recording. The Novachords were fellow music heads on the hustle for recording time and I had the studio keys. First time I met Dommy Lawson he was playing saxophone. Finally, I heard him sing. Knock out. He’s now sung with the Hacienda classics tour…

What made you go in to music?

You don’t choose music, music chooses you. I picked up the guitar aged 10.

Are you signed?

Nightmare got uploaded only 6 days ago. No.

Your DEBUT song ‘ Nightmare’, what can you tell us about it?

It’s Gothic hip-hop blues

What was the writing process like for ‘Nightmare’?

Just 3 chords and the truth. A song about lost love. The ‘Nightmare’ character was inspired by Charles Dickens Christmas Carol “Ghost of Christmas Past” with an extra splash of Tim Burton. I like how the song starts and finishes over one night.

Will we see a new EP or Album this year?

‘Nightmare’ is part of a trilogy. Two more songs on the way…

Do you have any gigs or tours coming up?

No

Do you play any instruments?

Yes I do. Guitar and Piano

Who are your influences?

I’m a music geek. So from Fats Domino and onwards. I love all music. Manchester music I’m loving at the moment – Cupids, Ethan and the Reformation and Jordan Max.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

Songs are always bubbling away in my imagination. Relentlessly.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

In a bigger studio with better coffee

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

The washing, the ironing, scrubbing the pots

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

All the Beatles albums. I studied it. Every song.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

“Fail to prepare Daniel. Prepare to fail”

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

For me. Forget about everything except the music.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

I like John Lennon’s quote “Learn to swim and keep swimming”

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?

The Deaf Institute for a can of lemonade Ting, a hearty meal. And new music.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?

The live sound mix

The drummers beat

The crowd response
