TOM JARVIS FROM CAMBRIDGE,LONDON CHATTED TO ME ABOUT HIS NEW DOUBLE A SIDED SINGLE (A SIDE) ‘WONDER OF TIME’ AND SUPPORTING SOME BIG NAMES

What is your name?  Tom Jarvis

What is your genre of music?

 Singer/Songwriter/Pop/Folk

Give us a little bio about you.

Im a Singer/Songwriter from Cambridge. I’ve been performing live for 6 years now and been lucky enough to support artists such as Nina Nesbitt, Scouting for girls, Toploader, Example, John Newman and Stu Larsen.

My debut EP made the top 40 of the iTunes singer/songwriter charts and currently working on my new release scheduled for August 12th 2016.

What made you go in to music?

I love music and I love a challenge. Simple as that really.

Are you a signed?

 No

Your brand new Single ‘Wonder Of Time’ , whats the meaning behind?

Wonder of time is a bit of a love story about a person thats special to you and the only way you can compare their epicness (if thats a word) is by comparing them to the Wonders of the world, because they are pretty epic after all.

Will we see a EP or album by the end of the year?

Im planning on getting back in the studio towards the end of 2016, so hopefully at the beginning of 2017 the next EP will be available.

Will you be doing any gigs or tours?

I am in the process of organising a few tour dates over the next few months, so keep an eye out on my Facebook/twitter/website for details on these.

You’ve supported so many great arises already, how was that?
Insane. I love playing live anyway, but to be able to warm a crowd up for some huge names is always pretty special.

Did any of the bands or artists you supported give you advice?

The advice I seem to get from anybody who has ‘made it’ in the music industry is to keep going…. Regardless of how tough it is. Sounds cliche, but I believe it is true.

Do you play any instruments?

Yes primarily the guitar, but also play the Ukulele, bass guitar, a little piano and really basic drums haha

Who are your influences?

I have so many musical influences, but to name a few… Jason Mraz, John Mayer, The Fray, Hunter Hayes, Tim McGraw, Ben Howard, Jack Johnson and the list goes on….

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

I really go through phases… Some times I feel creative and write a lot, some times I just don’t. So I don’t try to force it. But I try and draw inspiration from happy things that make me smile or chilled, rather than upsetting depressing things…

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

Still chipping away, never giving up… 🙂

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

I like to eat which means I have to exercise whether thats Kickboxing, playing football, tennis in the gym etc etc… I also like to ride motorbikes although I don’t have one at the moment which sucks…. I sold it so I could pursue a music career haha!

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

Jason Mraz – Butterfly …… This song I think could be one of my favourite songs.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

Make your own luck…. Which was actually the title of my debut EP back in 2014.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Be yourself, don’t worry about pleasing everybody and make things happen for yourself.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

Again, sorry to keep repeating myself, but I live by the motto ‘Make your own luck’
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?

Guitar, spare plectrums, guitar strap, a guitar lead and myself.
