Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a British/Colombian singer-songwriter who’s about to release her 1st melody-filled, colourful and passionate EP!
How long have you been doing music?
I learnt to play music at the same time I learnt to talk.
What made you go in to music?
It gave me no choice, it is me. It’s how I process, it’s how I breathe, it’s the house I live in. It happens to be where I earn a living but if I got my income from somewhere else, I’d still be living through music.
Are you a signed?
Not for this side of my music. I’ve only just begun.
You released the video for ‘Same Boat’, Tell Us more about that.
It was made on a shoestring budget with me and a few talented friends, so it’s a home-made, love child! With the song having a watery metaphor “Same boat different tide” and with my love of underwater vintage theatre, they had to be put together, and luckily it worked perfectly. So that….as well as living out some childhood dreams to be a pirate and a mermaid, made the video you see today!
Will you be releasing an album or EP?
Yes ! ‘From The Uproar’ is due Match 28th !
What instruments do you play?
I played most of the instruments on my record. I can usually figure out how to play most instruments, they’re just instruments, the musician is the person, they can translate the music through any instrument really. Piano is my main instrument though from birth, guitar and singing is only recent.
Who are your influences?
Mainly the world and everything in it ! Debussy is a big one, he unlocks something in me. Tori Amos is a big one too. And then Colombian folk music another.
Will you be doing any gigs or a Tour?
Yes ! My manager is planning a tour in spring/summer and there will be an EP launch gig somewhere. Keep an eye on my social media pages for info on where and when.
If you are, where are will you be heading?
The launch gig will be London and Brighton and the tour should be throughout the UK.
How do you get inspiration to write songs?
There are inspiration sparks all over the place for me, at every time of everyday, especially inside of music – one sound, one note and there’s a million possibilities waiting for you right there – but it’s what you chose to do with that spark that’s the thing. That’s the bit that takes the time but makes the song. For lyrics though, it always help to feel emotionally overloaded by something enough to be desperate for an outlet. It’s a fantastic pressure and fuel for music, although not always nice.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I wouldn’t want to imagine, I like life to surprise me and I like to learn a new dance when music suddenly switches on ! I know I’ll forever be making music, otherwise I‘d die, so whatever happens to me, I know I’m going to be happy with that continuing.
When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
Usually making something. Like a new bit of writing – a blog or a book, or painting, sketching, making a feather bracelet ! I also love exploring, especially in abandoned buildings. I eat a lot too, it’s the Colombian side, so I hunt food down as a hobby too. But mostly I’ll be making new music.
If you could collaborate with one UK Artist who would it be?
John Hopkins. I want to learn his brain for ambient, natural electronics and atmosheres.
If you could collaborate with one USA Artist who would it be?
Thomas Newman the film composer. He has an ear for the experimental but emotional world. That man could move a Rhino to tears !
Where is your dream venue or festival to perform in UK?
Barn on The Farm festival !
Where is your dream venue or festival to perform in USA?
Red Rocks ! It’s so impressivly natural up there…and cool.
What do you love the most being in the Music Industry and can you give any advice to help aspiring artists/bands.
I love music more than the industry but I do love that anyone and everyone can share their creations online without a label these days. Self-expression has gone wild ! As for advice to others…I’d say find your edge. Copying is good to grow your tools and learn some music ropes from artists that know a thing or two, but imitation should never be your goal. Keep your eyes open for the lane that only you can fill. Write only the music that you can write. And stop being so damn serious about it! Just breathe in it.
What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
I think Tori Amos Cornflake girl was a big one, she’s this quirky woman with great melodies and bags of character in her voice and style who bangs this grand piano with such boldness and attitude and I see that as a teenager and go…there’s room for us weirder ones after all !
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
So you want to be a composer ? Then compose !

‘Nothing is wasted’ and ‘it will be what it will be’

Capo, water, instruments, fingers, left elbow.
