Kendra Slaubaugh (19) and Krista Slaubaugh (16)

What is your band’s Genre?
We are a pop-country duo, but have many influences in our music, including blues and folk music.

Give us a little bio of the band and you guys as individual.
(Here’s one of our bio’s) Nashville recording artists and sisters, Kendra and Krista, combine their distinctive musical talents to comprise the genre-bending duo, Tigirlily! Letting their light shine, Kendra and Krista combine their musical talents and inherent optimism to ultimately achieve their goal of inspiring others. The effervescent sister duo infuses a country pop tone into their originals and covers, creating a distinct style. Music has always been their passion, singing from a young age; however, talent by itself does not flourish and this North Dakotan duo has worked diligently to succeed. They first started singing publically in church, providing a solid foundation for their future. From there, their singing careers expanded to a broader audience, opening for musical talents such as Thompson Square, Love and Theft, Chris Cagle, Joe Diffie, the Bellamy Brothers, Hotel California, 32 Below, Gwen Sebastian and Kat Perkins, to now headlining their own high energy, interactive concerts with their band. Their ever-growing YouTube following allows their music to garner a world-wide audience as well. As they infuse their songs with energy, compassion, and depth, Kendra and Krista hope to inspire those along the way.

Kendra
As a talented Nineteen-year-old, Kendra balances creating and perfecting music, while attending the University of North Dakota majoring in Entrepreneurship. This driven singer, song writer, and piano player has a natural country style, but her style refuses to be categorized neatly as she has an eclectic range. Although many of her original songs are about serious issues, Kendra writes not only from her own personal experience, but also from her naturally empathetic heart that allows her to see the world through others’ viewpoints.

Krista
Writing songs from the depths of her vast imagination since she was ten, now sixteen-year-old Krista plays guitar, drums, piano and vocalizes harmoniously. Her tenacious spirit and way with words adds a quirky spark to the duo. Outside of her musical pursuits, she is a driven athlete, honor student and is involved in a multitude of extra-curricular activities.

Where did you get the band name from?
When going through potential band names, we really wanted a name that people would remember. Finally, the name “Tigerlily” came up, and we fell in love with it right away. The name is very young, fresh, and fun. Ironically, Krista has more of the “tiger” personality and I (Kendra) have more of the “lily” personality. We changed the spelling to “TiGIRLily” because we are all about that girl power!

Who does what in the band?
Kendra– Sings melody, plays keyboard, and writes music for Tigirlily

Krista – Sings harmony and melody, plays guitar and occasional drums, and writes music for Tigirlily

Are You Signed?
We are not signed and as of now, have not pursued a record label. Right now, being independent has worked for us, but in the future, a major record label would be the goal. Having a major record deal would allow our music to be shared with a much larger audience.

Kendra – Piano and saxophone
Krista– Guitar, drums, and piano

How did the band come about?
Music has always been something we’ve loved and felt very passionate about, so we figured we might as well make it our career. We started to put YouTube videos online and doors started to open up for us locally, to state-wide, to now all over the Midwest region. In the beginning it was just the two of us performing acoustic shows, now we tour with 3 other band members which allows us to perform really high energy shows.

How did you guys meet?
We are sisters, so our entire lives. This makes practicing very convenient!

Who are your influences?
We are very influenced by women in music – Carrie Underwood, Adele, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, and Gwen Sebastian just to name a few!! Girl power!!!

When will you be releasing material?
We have three CD’s out already and plan to record a fourth this summer! Yay for music!

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Krista – I build my songs around catchy phrases or interesting things I read or hear people say. I also write from my own experiences and others experiences as well. I try to keep most of my songs upbeat, catchy, fresh, and fun!

Kendra – I definitely write from my own or other peoples experiences in life. I am probably the more “emotional” writer – I try to write a story with every song I write!

What is your best moment since joining a band?
We’ve had so many amazing opportunities since we started Tigirlily – from opening for amazing artists, such as Thompson Square, to headlining our own shows, to charting #33 on the iTunes country charts and #4 on Billboard heat seekers chart with our latest EP!! Just knowing that our music has helped someone get through their day or through a hard time in life is so rewarding. That’s what music is about, helping people through their bad days and making them smile through their good ones.

What’s the best bit of advice have you ever received?
To believe in yourself and your ideas 100%! If you believe in yourself, others will too.

Where do you see the band in 2-5 years time?
We hope to be touring and sharing our music nationwide all year long, recording as much as music as possible, and inspiring others along the way.

Where would your dream place be to perform in the UK?
Wembley Stadium for sure!

Where is your dream place to perform in USA?
Both, the Grand Ole Opry and Madison Square Garden!!

If you could do collaboration with anyone in the UK who would it be?
Ed Sheeran! Love his style and the emotion he puts into his music!

If you could do a collaboration with anyone in USA who would it be?
Taylor Swift! She is an automatic hit-maker!!

If you weren’t doing music what would you be doing?
Kendra – I would love to open up my own little boutique/coffee shop with live music! It’s always been a dream of mine!
Krista – I would love to be a producer or a doctor!

Nashville! Ha We love that show!!
