What is your band’s Genre?
Steve;
That’s a fairly basic question which we don’t really have an answer for… I guess we kind of define ourselves as ‘pop-punk’ but quite a few of our songs stray from that quite a bit… but yeah, as a starting point, pop-punk.
Give us a little bio of the band and you guys as individual.
Steve;
So, the band originally started in 2013 under a different name with a different singer and they gave the band a head start on the local scene. Needless to say, the old singer left and Steve joined as a frontman. He’d done work with the band before (as a tech) but as the rest of the band already knew he could sing they asked him to join.

Jake was the first member of the band, despite being the second youngest and least talented. He’s got an unhealthy obsession with Green Day, which explains why he’s such a bad guitarist. He uses quite a few techniques common in greenday songs…like lack of rhythm, playing the wrong chord, shouting ‘woah’ and complaining about lead.

Steve;
Steve’s the only member of the band who’s not from Newcastle, coming from Durham instead. He went to a private school…so basically he’s posh as hell… He started singing in a choir (more poshness) and started guitar when he was about 12. He used to do an acoustic act until he got promoted to sing in the band.
Tom;
I’m a drummer from Newcastle who started bands with Robbie and jake 4 years ago. I have habits such as playing drums when the guys are talking and trying to calm jake down on his obsession in breaking guitar heads.
Robbie;
Yo I’m Robbie I’m the bass player, or according to Mitch, the big guitar. I’m the oldest and least responsible, i enjoy outside n bikes n generally messing about. My favourite food is pizza.
Where did you get the band name from?
Steve;
We got the band name on a dark cold night in the middle of august, we were all sitting on a dark hillside just outside of Newcastle and it was surprisingly starry for a place so close to a large city. Suddenly, we saw a bright orange light in the sky burst out of nowhere. We finally came to the conclusion that it was the Northern Lights as it was on the ‘Northern Horizon’ (see where i’m going?) But it turns out it came from just over the road as some students where having a firework party…
A few days later we also decided that Northern Horizon was a pretty cool name so we stuck with that.
What do you all do in the band?
Jake;
Steve does vocals, Jake plays rhythm guitar, Robbie plays bass guitar, Mitch is lead guitar and Tom is the drum hitter.
Steve writes the majority of the lyrics but everyone else chips in to make the rest of the songs
Are you signed?
Jake;
We aren’t signed, although we are looking for a label.
How did the band start?
Jake;
The band started as Jake, Tom and Robbie playing together. Jake brought in his friend Iain who brought in Asa, we kicked out Asa and brought in James, we kicked Iain out and brought Robbie in on rhythm guitar. James left and Robbie took over the vocals, Robbie brought in Rhys on keyboard and Robbie brought in Mitch. Rhys and Robbie both left and then we brought in Steve on vocals. We then took our first step on the journey to become the international super hits we (almost) are.
How did you guys meet?
Jake;
Well, Me, Robbie and Tom all want to school together…
Mitch joined the band later cause the old singer dragged him along and then Steve’s acoustic act played with the band.
Who are your influences?
Jake;
Well…mostly greenday…
Mitch;
For me, Reel Big Fish, Zebrahead, All Time Low, Shit Storm and Frank Turner
Steve;

Robbie;
I’m mostly influenced by FIDLAR, the wombats, cage the elephant n stuff.
What are your backgrounds whether it’s in music or not?
Steve;
Well, its quite shady to be honest…like, for most of us…
Mitch; for example, it’s a wall…Jake is sitting against a door…We don’t even know where Robbie and Tom are…
How did music come in to your lives and when did you start doing it?
Steve;
Well, i went to a choir school so i didn’t really get a choice…I guess my brother got me into the more rocky sides of music, like the goo goo dolls… well… it’s rock compared to choir music.
Jake;
I started playing trumpet in year 3.
Mitch;
I was drunk in a party once and music was there and one thing led to another and i ended up inside music… But seriously mostly my granddad and uncle as well as dragon force (my first gig without my dad)
Robbie;
I started bass cause Jake didn’t want to n I had one handy so thats how i started
Tom;
Listened to American idiot as my first album and wanted to play drums from then. Also listened to busted as a kid so woooooo for me
When will you be releasing material?
Steve;
February, Julyish, October…yeah… maybe
But we kinda write songs all the time…
How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Steve;
Basically i ask the guys to pick a random subject and then i write some vaguely meaningful stuff in a vaguely rhythmically and melodic way…
It always ends up cush…
I mean…we venture to the summit of an ancient mountain and look over the mountain range at the setting sun and only when the breeze is directly south west of us can we finally get inspiration from our surroundings….
Mitch;
The way i get inspiration is strange…
Basically, Once every hundred-thousand years or so,
When the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow
And the grass doth grow
Steve; Shut up.
Jake;
I use Mitch’s drugs…
Where do you see the band in 2-5 years time?
Steve;
Well, apparently Mitch and Jake will be in prison…
I’ll probably be…older…
Mitch;
*Steve asked for a serious answer but most orientated around selling drugs*
Jake;
Well I’ll be at college…the rest of the band…getting extra income from somewhere…? *Mitch coughs*
Where would your dream place be to perform?
Mitch;
In a strip club
Jake;
Mitch’s meth lab
Tom;
A tour across America for months
Steve;
I guess headlining the o2 arena would be pretty cush…maybe somewhere bigger?
If you could do collaboration with anyone who would it be?
Mitch;
Well…Frank Turner…mainly so i can kidnap him…
I’d feed him? And take him out for walks…sometimes…

If you wasn’t doing music what would you’s be doing?
Mitch; Well, I’d probably be selling drugs to kids, Jake would sit in a corner and vegetate…maybe learn guitar. Tom would hit things…he’ll probably be homeless to be honest. Robbie would be…well yeah, he’d do a lot…And Steve would do Robbie…
If You got asked by a tv show or film to have your music played on, which show or film would it be?
Mitch;Well, personally I’d say anything from the cornetto trilogy…
Steve; anything on channel 90-98 would be good…
Mitch; Is this from me?

Mitch;Well, not really… we’re currently writing this by using one hard stone and carving it into another, so yeah…its hard in the stone age.
